Hermie, a Common Caterpillar (Review & Giveaway)

Hi! Remember me? I’m that blogger that had high hopes of posting with a newborn {insert maniacal laugh}. Said newborn has rocked our world a little bit more than I had expected (in a good way, I promise we’re ok)….which means it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. BUT, I have something time-sensitive to tell you about and giveaway…so here I am typing with my right hand while holding Asher with my left :)

Have you met Hermie yet? Hermie is a little caterpillar designed by Max Lucado to help kids know that God loves and God listens. I love that. I want my kids to know that God loves them and listens to them. I’ll do whatever it takes to get them to understand those truths and root them deep in their hearts early. Here’s Max Lucado telling a little more about Hermie…

Hermie has been around for a while, but somehow, we had totally missed the stories until now. I mean, I guess I had seen him while perusing Lifeway, but never really checked him out until now. Hermie has had some changes recently and Tommy Nelson sent me a preview (and a giveaway for you, too!)

So what’s new with Hermie? Well, for starters, he’s got a new look…in my opinion, he’s much cuter! The classic Hermie, a Common Caterpillar has been turned into a Level 2 Reader (be still my teacher heart!) AND they’ve introduced “Little Hermie” board books for the younger kids, ages 0-4. I love that no matter the age of your kids, there is a Hermie book for you!

We loved all 3 books Tommy Nelson sent us to preview! I have a feeling Thank You, God, For Loving Me and Thank You, God, For Blessing Me will be favorites when Asher is a little older.

If you’d like to take a sneak peek at the books, view the digital flipbooks:

And because Tommy Nelson loves you, they want to give away ALL 3 books to one winner!

Want to win ALL 3 Hermie books? Leave a comment below! I’ll pick a winner on Wednesday, Oct. 5th. Good Luck!

Boutique Baby Series: Ribbon Tag Blanket Tutorial

You can buy Ribbon Tag Blankets in the store, but I figure, why buy one when I can make it with things I already have in my craft stash? Seriously, I already had all of the materials. So for me, this project was FREE~my favorite kind of project!

Ribbon Tag Blanket

  • 12×12″ square of Minky fabric (can also use fleece, flannel, or other soft fabric)
  • 12×12″ square of Satin fabric
  • Various ribbon strips cut approximately 2-3″ long
  • thread
  • sewing machine

1.) Cut your fabric. I like to use a 12×12″ square for a “lovey” or snuggle blanket. (Optional: If you have an embroidery machine, this would be the best time to stitch the monogram.)

2.) Cut your ribbon. I don’t measure exactly, just make sure you have atleast 2-3″ inch pieces.

3.) Fold ribbon pieces in half to form a loop. Leaving a small amount hanging over the edge, pin the ribbon around the edges of the main fabric. The loop should be facing the inside of the square. (By leaving a little hanging over the edge, we will be sewing over the ribbon at two different points to ensure they stay inside the blanket.)

4.) Tack down the ribbon loops with your sewing machine.

5.) Place the other fabric pieces right-sides-together. If you are using Minky and Satin as I did, pin very well! The minky and satin will slide around as you sew. Also, minky has lots of stretch to it. If you don’t pin well, it will be very wonky!

6.) Leaving a 3 inch opening, sew around the edges. (Leaving an opening is important!)
7.) Clip corners.

8.) Turn the fabric right side out. Push out the corners.
9.) Pin the hole shut and topstitch around the edges.

10.) Admire your work. Give to a little one to snuggle.

Ribbon Tage Blanket 2

Asher is still too young to appreciate the soothing powers of a tag blanket, but isn’t he cute?

Boutique Baby on a Budget Series

I love boutique baby items…my budget does not.

Plus, most of the time, I leave the store saying “I could soooo make that.”

So, what’s a girl to do?

Make it herself…on a budget.

And that’s what I did.

But what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t share?

I can’t wait to share a few projects I made for Asher’s arrival with you!

Giveaway Winners!

So, I’ve been a little preoccupied with a certain newborn this week and haven’t posted the winners…let’s fix that shall we?

Just so you know how winners are chosen around here: I use a WordPress Plug-in called “And The Winner Is…” to randomly select the winner for me.

The Grace Card DVD winner is…Crystal M!

The Crippled Lamb book winner is…Amy W!

Both winners have already been contacted via email and their items are on their way to their house! Congratulations ladies!

Stay tuned….I’ve got a few more giveaways coming up. Maybe you’ll be the winner?!?!

Today around lunch time, we’ll be meeting little brother.

Yes, today is the day.
