Tantrums...

Sharing is caring!

You know you're in for a long day when you wake up to find Jonah in the kitchen throwing a tantrum over a broken banana. Not only did the day continue with repeated tantrums...ALL DAY LONG over EVERY SINGLE THING, but they lasted for a very long time in length. My pediatrician suggested ignoring the tantrum at one of our visits, but seriously, how long do you let them go?  I'm amazed at the endurance of a two year old when throwing a tantrum. Jonah went for atleast an hour this afternoon...rolling around the floor, kicking, screaming. It was ridiculous. Any of my readers have some advice? How long do you let them go? Do you just ignore it? Do you move them to a designated place until they calm down? Help!

I pick mine up and plunk them in their room. When they have calmed down enough, I ask them to explain why they are upset. My 3 and 4 year olds have trouble with it, but are starting to come around. That being said, I have given them a spanking when they are hitting, throwing, or destroying things in their effort to get my attention. Never the less, each tantrum has to end with them telling me why they are upset, they don't come out of their room until they do.

OHhhh and hang in there. This is one of the tough things of parenting a toddler. If you ever want to cry or scream call me. I have had to do both of those more than a few times!

Sara,Some of your readers may not like to hear this buuttt we spank Aiden when he has a tantrum. We tried to ignore him, we sent him to his room, we did time out, and we tried simply loving on him. None of it worked. He just got so upset he would hyperventilate. So a couple weeks ago we took the advice of a close friend and started spanking at his tantrums. It only took a couple of times and now when we tell him to calm down he does. Get it early girl .. it will only get worse I PROMISE! If you dont get it now you will have a teenager and then adult who wont know how to control his temper!
