6 Reasons Why I Want to Go to the 2:1 Conference

This post is completely selfish and might not mean anything to my readers. However, the motivation of winning a free ticket to The 2:1 Conference is enough to make me tap on my keyboard. After all, I am a frugal girl. ;) Indulge me, dear readers, while I enter the giveaway over at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers  and The Homeschool Classroom for a FREE ticket. I’ll be back with a crafty/fun mom post next!

6 Reasons Why I Want to Go to the 2:1 Conference

1.  I need a pep-talk.

We’ve officially decided we’re homeschooling. I’ve known it for sometime deep down in my heart, but the actually “doing” instead of just “talking” about it…well, it can be a little scary. I need someone who understands to look me in the eyes and tell me that I CAN, in fact, do this, despite what the nay-sayers and negative thoughts in my head tell me. I process things best when I can sit down and hash things out with friends. Where else would I go to get a homeschooling pep-talk than a conference where all of my favorite homeschool bloggers are sitting in the same room? It just makes sense to me.

2.  I want some vision for my blog.

The colicky baby fog has put me in a blogging slump lately and I need some vision. (Ok, ok, that’s just another way to say that I need a blog pep-talk, but I already used that as a reason.) I’ve been blogging in my head during this whole colic time with Asher and have a notebook full of notes and ideas to blog about. Now that the fog is lifting (fingers-crossed), I enter this blogging space with more trepidation than I once did. Who am I as a blogger? Am I a mommy-blogger? A craft blogger? An adoption blogger? A “fun mom” transitioning to homeschool blogger? How do all of these things fit together? That’s what I’m hoping to find out and gain some insight into how to combine all of these things in this space. Or, get the vision to start a separate blog to house some of these endeavors.

3. My friends are going.

I know, that sounds like a middle school girl asking to be dropped off at the mall by herself, but it’s true. Some of my friends from the Totally Tots writing team and The Mob Society writing team are going to be there. I’d love to connect in real life with them again~hug their necks, laugh, and learn together.

4. It’s being held close to Washington, D.C.

Family field trip, anyone? In all seriousness, I’ve NEVER been to  D.C., unless you count the drive-through my college friends and I took after Heather’s wedding. The fact that many of the attractions in our Nation’s Capitol are FREE kind of excites me. With counting every penny for our Ethiopian adoption, we’re not taking any trips. However, if I were to WIN a FREE conference ticket and partner with a sponsor for lodging, we might be able to go. Since I’m nursing, Asher would need to be my little sidekick, so Ray and Jonah might as well come, too. I’m sure the hotel pool would be Jonah’s trip highlight.

5. Curriculum.

So, since we’re homeschooling, and some of the big names in curriculum will be there as sponsors, it only makes sense to go and stalk their tables. I’m a “let-me-touch-it-and-flip-through-the-pages” kinda girl. I’m also very indecisive. Seeing some of their curriculum up close and being able to ask questions might benefit me.

6. The Sessions

Ya’ll….the sessions sound fantastic. I’m seriously going to have to play eenie-meenie-minie-mo to figure out which ones to attend.

So, there.

6 Reasons Why I Want to Go to the 2:1 Conference. Why 6 reasons instead of 10? I’m random like that. Also, 6 reasons is all I had time for between Jonah’s bedtime and Asher’s next nursing session. See, this post alone is proof that I need to go glean from other bloggers who are “doing it all”–babies, blogging, and homeschool.

Thank you 2:1 Conference, Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers, and The Homeschool Classroom for the chance to win a FREE ticket!
