I recently had lunch with Robin from Pensieve. She is another Chattanooga blogger that I “met” through Twitter. This was our first time meeting face-to-face, instead of typing through a computer. As sweet and southern as sweet tea and cobbler, she did not disappoint! I’d love to be able to see a video screen with all of her thoughts flickering…she’s very energetic and personable. I just adore her!

We met in Downtown Chattanooga at the Southern Star. YUM! If ever in Chattanooga, you must go there! We chatted about lots of things–mostly blogging. I had so many questions for Robin, but once I was there I couldn’t remember half of them….isn’t that the way it always goes? I’m making a list for next time!

And then Shaun Groves , Tyrus Morgan, and Ben Stewart showed up after their Compassion Concert for dessert… This was somewhat surreal—not because I’m some “starstruck” groupie, but because the blog writers and distant tweeters in my computer screen came to life, sat down at the table with me and talked to me like a friend. What started out as a random tweet, “Hey Shaun, you should let us take you to lunch when you’re in Chattanooga” actually happened.

We’re all very different people with different daily adventures, but there is a common thread in the tapestry of our lives…Jesus and Compassion International. That topic in itself was enough to provide us plenty of conversation material. I heard of the most recent Compassion Blogging trip to Guatemala and instantly remembered faces of my students when I taught in a bilingual inner-city kindergarten classroom, many of which were immigrants from Guatemala. Then Robin and Shaun reminisced about their Compassion Blogging Trip to India. I loved hearing from them and knowing that my monthly check (the thing that was a non-negotiable when we cut everything else in our budget), is making a difference.

When I got home, I opened my mailbox to find a letter from José, the child our family sponsors. (God’s timing is impeccable!) He had drawn a picture for us. I cleared a space on the refrigerator next to Jonah’s latest artwork to hang up the picture as a reminder to pray for José whenever I open the refrigerator door. Then I sat down to write him back.

Would you consider sponsoring a child today? It’s so much more than writing a monthly check. It really is making a difference in a child’s life…and it just might change your life, too!

Sponsor a child online through Compassion's Christian child sponsorship ministry. Search for a child by age, gender, country, birthday, special needs and more.

Sara!! What a lovely post; thank you for your kind words. It was fun reading the account of our meeting through your eyes. I’m already looking forward to our next get together.

Thanks, too, for sharing the link to Tyrus’ music. I missed his last name, wasn’t sure how to spell his first, and am listening to him even as I type this comment :) .

Mostly, though, I want to thank you for your support of José and Compassion International. Because I know the organization is credible and life-changing for those it serves (in the now and for eternity), I’m thankful for voices who tell others about it.

:)

i rock climbed in chattanooga once, and it was beautiful.

compassion does such great work, and it is great to do something tangible for needy kids on the other side of the world. when our compassion child aged out, my husband picked one from gospel for asia–another impactful ministry.

i’m looking forward to relevant next week and connecting with others bloggers, too. should be wonderful:)

Aww, man. I wish you would have told me before you came to visit so I could’ve looked for you! Ray told me later that day that you were there. Wasn’t last week amazing? God is so good!
