We have created a monster...

Tonight was Girls Night Out with some ladies from church, so Ray and Jonah had some father/son time while I enjoyed some girl talk. Ray took Jonah to McDonalds and then to Toys-R-Us to redeem a coupon for a FREE Thomas Engine (worth $12.99--Thank you Toys-R-Us!). While Ray was looking for the train, Jonah kept saying "Choo-Choo" over and over with increasing volume each time. Ray let Jonah hold the train when he found it. As they were walking through the aisles, Jonah kept saying the names of the characters/toys he knows Dora, Ming-Ming (from the Wonderpets), Blue's Clues, Wow Wow Wubzy, ball.....then as they rounded the corner they found the CARS section. If you read my last post, you'll remember that we watched the CARS movie atleast 6 times on our way back from Florida at Jonah's request. Ray and Jonah were admiring the toys and Ray picked one up to get a closer look....then he heard it...."Please"...."Please"...."Please Car"... Jonah HANDED the Thomas train to Ray and said "Please" again. Ray put Thomas in the cart next to Jonah and heard "No" with a head shake to go with it. Jonah handed Thomas to Ray AGAIN and said "Thank You" (his way of telling you to take something from him). Ray, being the man of iron will that he is, handed the CARS toy to Jonah and walked to the register.

Now, the story is absolutely THE CUTEST THING EVER and I wish I had been there to witness it, but then I got to thinkin'........

  1. How is this going to affect Jonah's understanding that he won't always get something when we go to the store?!?!
  2. Are we going to start dealing with tantrums over wanting something in a store ALREADY?!?!
  3. How many more times am I going to have to watch CARS?!?!
  4. Am I going to have to supervise Ray in Toys-R-Us with Jonah the little manipulator from now on?!?! (Just kidding honey!)

It's so hard not to give them everything they want; isn't it? I know I want to do anything that would put a smile on their faces. I guess Ray had one of those moments. :-)I'm so glad you came to Olive Garden. Remember MOPS is this Tuesday. I really hope you'll come.
