The Boy Who Changed The World…

While at Relevant, I had a chance to meet and mingle with AnnJanette and Abby from Tommy Nelson. As I was checking out their fabulous booth, I picked up a book called The Boy Who Changed the World. The title caught my attention, for obvious boy mom reasons, but as I flipped through the pages, I was captivated by the story–a true story!

The Boy Who Changed the World tells the incredible story of Nobel laureate Norman Borlaug, a simple boy with a desire to feed the hungry–but Borlaug couldn’t have accomplished this without the help of Vice President Henry Wallace, who was influenced by inventor George Washington Carver, who in turn was rescued by farmer Moses Carver.  The message of the book: each life is interwoven by decisions–both big and small. You know, the butterfly effect.

The book ends with an inspiring charge to readers…

That means every little thing YOU do matters: what you did yesterday, what you do today, and what you do tomorrow. God made your life so important that every move you make, every action you take, matters…and not only for you or the people around you. Everything you do matters for everyone and for all time!

When you think about it like that…Wow! That means YOU can be the kid who changes the world!

The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! I noticed that there were butterflies on each page–perfect for a game of “I Spy” as you read each page and talk about the book. Want to see some pages from the book? Here is a sneak peek!

My “teacher” mode kicked in when I saw the Curriculum Packet for school, homeschooling, or Sunday school. And yes, as a former teacher, it received my seal of approval. It was full of great ideas and ready-to-use resources!

Hi Sara!

I did not get a chance to look at this one at Relevant and I wish I had! I’m especially intrigued by the curriculum supplement that you can do with it since we homeschool!

I would definitely read this to my three children and would love to interact with them about how they can impact the world for Christ!

I changed the world this week by helping our boys pick out presents for children around the world — they are learning that they can change the world!

I like to remind myself that I have changed the world this week by simply instilling love and character into my little boy!! Doesn’t always feel that way! =)
What a great giveaway!

I would love to have this book! If I don’t win it, I’m going to buy it. I will read it to my grandchildren. Grace who will be two next month and Olivia and “Baby B” who are to be born in February and March. It sounds like just the kind of story I want them to grow up hearing over and over again!

My family has changed our world by making cinnamon rolls & bringing them to some of our neighbors who live alone. They love visits from my little girls (especially when accompanied by food!)

I am changing the world by teaching Jackson and Claire about Jesus. I am teaching them about prayer, and how to thank God for all things at an early age.

I am so happy you shared this with us. It looks like a great book for me to read and Maddie. Although right away I thought of one special person that needs to hear these words! Thanks again, you have perfect timing.

Well later this afternoon my kids and our local co-op will be singing, praying for, and talking with residents of a local nursing home. I reviewed a digital copy of this book and loved it. I would love to have the real book so I don’t have to haul out my computer to read it :) I also created a couple lapbook elements that would go w/ it if anyone wanted to make a mini-unit study: http://www.spelloutloud.com/2010/09/boy-who-changed-world.html

I would love to share this book with my kids, especially my boys ages 4 and 10. It’s always a joy to find real-life resources that help my kids see that God can use THEM to make a difference for His kingdom! :)

We are packing OCC boxes this week. I am so excited to watch my boys look outward before they look inward.
