An Important Announcement…

by Sara McClure on November 18, 2010

God has been moving in our hearts. We’ve always wanted to adopt, but had it placed in a “someday” category. You know, after we had 2.5 kids, a house, a dog, and a white picket fence. After 2 years of waiting for the infamous pink line and Jonah asking for a baby, we began to wonder, “Why do we have to wait until someday down the road? Aren’t there millions of children waiting?”

There are millions. 147 million to be exact.

So here we are….researching, meeting with the local adoption agency, and filling out paperwork. We’ve asked the Lord for guidance and He is showing us the way. A beautiful story has started to unfold in front of us. God has been speaking so clearly…it’s as if He’s walking in front of us and yelling over His shoulder to “Keep Up!” He’s done some amazing things for us since we said yes to His call last week…..I’m still trying to wrap my brain around some of them.

P.S. I guess I should also say….

ETHIOPIA!

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. –John 14:18

Oh that’s so awesome!!! My hubby and I have talked about adopting, but we haven’t got that for-sure-God-is-knocking-the-door-down-time-to-do-it calling yet. I’ll be praying for you and can’t wait to hear about your journey.

WOOHOO!!!!! Beautiful! My heart overyjoys at the thought of that little person being united with a family such as yours. Have you read One Million Arrows by Julie Ferwerda? You must if you have not. It’s wonderful.

I love that you are adding such beautiful arrows to your quiver.

Wow Sara that’s awesome!! What made you decide on Ethiopia? We have 2 adopted kiddos too, but through foster care. Quicker placement but much slower adoption process. Keep us posted on your milestones!!

Reply

9 Sara November 18, 2010 at 9:48 pm

The decision was definitely God. Ethiopia had never been on my radar really. God just kept placing it on our heart. Ethiopia was everywhere–blog posts, conversations, etc. and then, when we went to talk to the adoption agency, God “closed the doors” on all of the other countries for some reason or another.

I actually heard it from Sam last week but wasnt sure when you were planning on telling everyone. I was thinking today how exciting it all is. Wondering if its going to be a boy or girl and what he or she will look like and what kind of personality he or she will have. It is just like expecting without the sickness ;)! I seriously cant put into words how happy i am for your family! Cant wait to give you a big hug on Sunday!

My friends brought home a 10 yo from Ethiopia around Easter time. Would you like me to introduce you? Susan knows the system very well. She’s been blogging and looking at blogs about it for years. They tried several countries. And they even lost a potential adoption along the way. Let me know!

39 Sara November 19, 2010 at 12:22 pm

Yep, if we waited until we were “ready” on paper and had everything in place the way we thought it should be…it may never happen. There’s always something that “pops up”…a car that needs fixed, a medical bill, etc. We are definitely taking a step of faith!

Just think, some child is feeling so lonely, and he/she has no idea that a loving and kind family is about to take them in. It blesses me so much to think about the love you are going to give to your new family member!
