His Ways, Not My Ways

by Sara on January 18, 2011

If I had gotten to choose, I would’ve been pregnant 2.5 years ago. My Ways

God had different plans.

Instead He made me wait and wait and wait….

while He stirred our hearts and showed us the depraved indifference that had taken root.

And we said YES with open arms…

  • to an orphan
  • to our lives being turned upside down and rearranged
  • to yearning to hug someone we’ve never even met

We rejoiced and you joined us in celebrating!

Now, for some reason…God has said enough waiting and opened my womb to grow and nurture a baby again. His ways.

And we rejoice again!

just to be sure

Now we find ourselves adopting AND pregnant! (Maybe that should be a new reality show title? No? Call me TLC! I’ll let you fund our adoption :) ) In all seriousness, we are ecstatic!

After the initial shock wore off, we realized that not much had changed for us. We are still adopting. God called us to adopt one of His children. We know that with every fiber of our being. We still say YES…with open arms! Thankfully, the adoption agency will let us continue with paperwork and let us pause when necessary.

And it’s kind of fitting don’t you think? That while a child grows within, a child grows in my heart. Double the love!

It is completely true! I keep wondering how far apart the babies will be. It will be like having “twins”!

I feel surprisingly good! I was miserable with my first pregnancy (even hospitalized 5 times!) I feel really good this time!

Yes, I’ll admit this one made us giggle for days and ask God, “What in the world have you got planned with this?” I still crack up!

What agency are you using? I’m surprised that they will let you continue on and not make you put your adoption on “hold.” Our agency terminates our case if I get pregnant! All babies are blessings though, so congratulations.

Hi Lara! We’re using Bethany. They will let us continue with all of our paperwork and the waiting. The policy with our agency states that we have to have a child in our home for 6 months before bringing another one into our home. Since we’re still fairly early in the process, we’ll have this baby first. We’re excited about both of our babies. We believe this is God’s sovereign way of timing it perfectly so we get lined up exactly with our child in Ethiopia. We also believe that God planted the desire to adopt in our hearts so strongly before opening my womb so that we would continue with the adoption. If I had gotten pregnant first, I’m not sure if we would be on the road to adopt at this time.

I’m seeing this kind of late, but THRILLED to read your news of these wonderful double blessings! Praising the Lord with you today!
P.S. I’m sorry to hear about the HG. We lived through that with our oldest living son too. I didn’t have the pump (in fact, my doctor refused to treat me at all, even though I was throwing up 20-30 times a day and bruising my face as a result), but I did more recently spend 5 months with a PICC line in my arm, so I can relate to all the medical care stuff a bit too. {hug}
